Drug Arrest (Ben Williams Jr.)

02/25/2022

On Saturday February 19, 2022 Sgt. Glenn Teeter checked on a stranded motorist on I55 northbound at the 36-mile marker.  The occupant of the vehicle told Sgt. Teeter that Ben Williams Jr. had walked to the Bassett Store to get help.  Sgt. Teeter then went to the Bassett Store to locate Mr. Williams.  Sgt. Teeter didn't locate him at the store.  While Sgt. Teeter was patrolling the Bassett area, he located a male subject matching the description of Mr. Williams at the intersection of Green and Blackwell Street.  Sgt. Teeter made contact with the subject and identified him as Ben Williams Jr.  Sgt. Teeter also learned Mr. Williams was on active probation.  While Sgt. Teeter was talking with Mr. Williams, he kept putting his hands inside his left front pocket and hoodie.  Sgt. Teeter advised him several times not to reach inside his pockets.  Mr. Williams then stated he had drugs on him.  Sgt. Teeter then checked his pockets locating one set of digital scales and one unused hypodermic needle.  Sgt. Teeter noticed a large plastic baggie containing methamphetamine on the ground next to the tire of his patrol unit.  Mr. Williams stated there was no need to weigh it because it was 40 grams plus 7 grams.  Actual total weight was 47 grams.  Mr. Williams was transported to the Mississippi County Detention Center and charged with the following;
