Drugs Discovered at Accident Scene

On December 29, 2021, Deputy Loyd Danner was sitting stationary on the Big Lake bridge when he was notified of an accident at the other end of the bridge.  Sgt. Matt Richardson arrived and assisted Deputy Danner with the accident.  Deputy Danner noticed that the driver, Charles Tharp was extremely nervous.  Deputy Danner knew the Street Crimes Unit had information relating to Mr. Tharp.  Deputy Danner then made contact with Deputies from the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department Street Crimes Unit.  Deputy Danner advised the unit about the information.  The Street Crimes Unit advised Deputy Danner they had received information earlier in the day that Mr. Tharp was transporting methamphetamine.  Once the Street Crimes Unit arrived, Deputy Danner deployed his K9 Karma around the vehicle.  K9 Karma gave positive alert that illegal substances were present inside the vehicle.  Deputies then searched the vehicle and found approximately 132.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine and a Kahr 380 handgun hidden under the center console.  Mr. Tharp (34 years old) was transported to the Mississippi County Detention Center and charged with the following;

 

Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Purpose to Deliver (methamphetamine)

Possession of a Firearm by Certain Persons

Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms

 

Mr. Tharp is currently on parole

 

 

Judge Shannon Langston set a $250,000.00 bond
